Welcome to the Oklahoma Board of Social Workers
We are pleased to be able to offer access to our law, rules, disciplinary
actions, roster of licensed social workers, and other useful information
for professionals and consumers. We hope you will visit the site
often to update and refresh your understanding of the various levels
of licensed social workers and our standards of practice.
What does a social worker do? The "practice of social work"
means the professional activity of helping individuals, groups or
communities enhance or restore their capacity for physical, social
and economic functioning and the professional application of social
work values, principles and techniques in areas such as clinical
social work, social service administration, social planning, social
work consultation and social work research. Social workers help
people obtain tangible services; counsel with individuals, families
and groups; help communities or groups provide or improve social
and health services; and participate in relevant social action.
The practice of social work requires knowledge of human development
and behavior; of social, economic and cultural institutions and forces;
and of the interaction of all of these factors. Social work practice
includes the teaching of relevant subject matter and of conducting
research into problems of human behavior and conflict.
The Board and staff welcome your input, comments, concerns, and
suggestions by letter, telephone, email, or fax. We want to hear
from you on all issues of concern to you as a consumer, stakeholder,
or provider of social work services. If you hope to become licensed
as a social worker in Oklahoma, we welcome you! We hope to be available
to facilitate a smooth transition from student to licensed professional
social worker.
